Lenay on the Scene: The Bamboozle Festival!

May 31, 2012

Now that we’ve had time to rest up from the epic weekend that was The Bamboozle Festival, it’s time to get you all the scoop! Our Girl on the Scene, Lenay Dunn, was there, videocamera in hand, to rock out on the beach, check out the fashion scene, and yes, talk to some of our favorite bands! Enjoy her exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the weekend here and stay tuned for the full interviews. We’ll also be posting all of your photobooth photos from the festival shortly, so keep checking back!

Straight from Lenay:

Bamboozle!!! My first time ever at Bamboozle was super awesome! It was the festival’s ten year anniversary, so it was held at Asbury Park on the Jersey Shore where it originally began! To prepare myself for such Bamboozle awesomeness, I went shopping for some new cute American Rag clothes the week before the festival. I got a cool tie-dye tank and some colored shorts. I think they’re pretty rocker. You can see them in my video.

Saturday, my first day at the festival, we got there before the crowds got let in, so I got to do a little shopping at the cute pop up vendors. I bought two home-made flower headbands (you can see my daisy one in my video), and was quite tempted to buy a cat shirt I saw, but didn’t. Instead, I just went back to the cat shirt booth at various intervals during the festival and counted all the cats on it.

Shortly after shopping we went to meet some of the guys from The Maine (pictured above!) outside their tour bus for our first interview. It was fun! We chilled out in lawn chairs they pulled out from under their bus (mine was orange) and just chatted about stuff on camera for a bit. (Ed note: Videos coming soon!)

I interviewed some other bands throughout the day as well (Motion City Soundtrack, The Dear Hunter, Comeback Kid & Woe, Is Me) and caught a few Bamboozle acts on the main stage in between - like our RAGGED cover star friends The All American Rejects! I almost crowd-surfed during their concert, but my video explains why I chose to not ha. Maybe I’ll try at the next festival! If I’m not too scared.

The fashion at the festival was more beach-y compared to the other festivals, because it was on a beach! Like bright neon shorts, lace or sheer tops with swimsuits underneath (one of my favs), & festival swag like band bracelets. The last day I was at Bamboozle was super windy & chilly, but lots of girls were still in super cute summery outfits & swimsuits! (Gotta impress those festival boys lol). They all had huge goosebumps, but looked really stylish. We even saw one girl in her bra. That was kind of funny smile. The last interview I did that day was with Trevor from He Is We, on the rooftop of the artist lounge overlooking the festival. It was so loud from all the surrounding stages, that when we couldn’t hear each other any more, we just gave into the music and turned our mic’s into guitars. Without words he taught me how to whip my hair around like a rocker. His hair was the same length as mine and he knew how to rock it way better—he’s probably had a lot of practice!

Hope you enjoy the video I made telling stories from the festival smile  I got really sun burnt from telling them!

Video Note: There is a strategically placed ‘meow’ in the video. And please pretend I’m saying ‘my friend Sam & I’ when I say ‘me & my friend Sam’. Ha. Thanks!
